WHAT IS A SEER?

Air conditioners are rated by SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio). The SEER can be compared to miles per gallon for your car. For every increase of 3 SEER, you save about 20% on utilities. The current SEER rating for new air conditioners begins at 13 and goes over 20 SEER. (Jan. 2023 the minimum will be 14 SEER) To illustrate, let's say an electric bill for an existing 10 SEER air conditioner was $50, the same electric bill with a new 13 SEER air conditioner would be about $40, and a 16 SEER would be about $30.
